Conference Report on “A Great Transformation” in Linz
In January 2017, the conference “A Great Transformation? Global Perspectives on Contemporary Capitalism” on the work of the economic historian Karl Polanyi, took place at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, in which Klaus Dörre was involved as a contributor. Two central findings of Western democracies were at the forefront: the loss of votes on the part of popular parties and the rise of right-wing populism, and secondly the increasing divergence world-wide between the rich and the poor. It was organized by the Institute for Sociology at the Johannes Kepler University, both the Institute for the Comprehensive Analysis of the Economy and the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Vienna, and the DFG Research Group “Post-Growth Societies” at the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena.
A summary report of the conference from the Austrian daily newspaper Der Standard can be found here.
